Owl

Nature, red in tooth and claw. This is the impression in the snow left by an owl that got a small animal, possibly a squirrel or a cat for lunch.

This is really beautiful, did you find this near your home? And, curious minds want to know, did you take the picture, too!?

How deep is the snow in yer neck of the woods?

If you took this photo, I'd love a print.

If you didn't take this photo, then I doubt it is real....a couple of things about it seem not right....

I agree, there are things about it that do not look real. the deer tracks look too shallow, for instance. And I can't get a clear idea of scale...like "are they deer tracks?" or something else. An owl's wing span is what....2, 3 feet? The deer tracks make it look, like, ginormous, but again, what do you have to compare it to?

And no, it was sent to me on an email. I have no idea of the provenance of this picture.

On the other hand, considering that owls are always hunting for mice, even in the winter, such a sight should not be so uncommon. I watched them swoop regularly in the fields surrounding the Ren Faire.

I plan to be putting a series of my OWN pictures up in the next few days. Light glinting on icicles, and so forth. Its just that the cameras all download on Brenda's laptop and I "HATE" laptops.

Oh, and in answer to your question PCM, the snow around here just hit nine feet a couple of days ago. The snow removal cost is so high that they are contemplating a 7.5% property tax increase just to cover the shortfall. (or is that "snow" fall)
